Glenn Heights – Eddie W. Burns, Sr. has been appointed as the new Fire Chief and officially begins February 16, 2015. A community welcome reception in his honor and the newly
appointed judges and prosecutor is scheduled for February 10, 2015 at 5:30 p.m. It will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers located at 1938 South Hampton Road, Glenn Heights.
Chief Burns has over 33 years of fire service experience and started his career with the Fort Worth Fire Department retiring from Fort Worth after serving as Station Officer, Training Chief,
Battalion Chief, Deputy Chief and as the Executive Deputy Fire Chief. He became the Chief of Dallas Fire Rescue in 2006 and served in this position for five and half years. During his tenure
with Dallas Fire Rescue he implemented a wellness fitness program, created advanced life support engine program, improved the EMS system increasing the survival rate of CPR victims
and patient care, increased focus on professional development and training and developed partnerships with the community.
He is certified through the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as a Master Firefighter, Master Fire Investigator and Inspector, Master Instructor and Peace Officer with the State of Texas. He graduated Cum Laude from Dallas Baptist University with a Bachelor of applied Arts and Sciences in Criminal Justice and Management and a Masters of Arts in Organizational
Management. Chief Burns is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program from the National Fire Academy in Maryland and was selected to attend the Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government for public officials in 2006. Currently, he is the Coordinator/Teacher for the Fort Worth Independent School District Gold Seal Program (Fire Academy for high school students) and an adjunct faculty member with Tarrant County College, Dallas Community College and the
Executive Development Institute (EDI) at Dillard University
