1. The Fire Service in High Risk Neighborhoods
This course is designed to introduce the first year students on the first day of the program to the history of people of color in the fire service nationwide. It is presented in three parts. First is the history of African People and the dynasties that existed before the colonialism era that divided Africa. The second part addresses the importance of documenting the history of people of color in the each students respective fire department for the purpose of remembering and understanding the sacrifices that were made by the pioneering men and women of this nation’s fire service. The last segment of this course ties all of the components together that have been discussed for the benefit of the student to completely understand why EDI was necessary and how it was created.
